Inhabit Life
"Let the beauty we love be what we do. There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground." - Rumi
Welcome
Hi, I’m Barrett. I’m glad you’ve found your way here.
Pursuing therapy is a courageous step that embodies strength and vulnerability. It can also be overwhelming and frustrating. It requires a significant investment of time, money, and emotional energy with no guarantee of the progress you seek. Navigating the noise of websites, images, text; cold emails and calls without response. I have great respect for the pursuit of life and good living that have brought you here.
I chose to become a therapist because of the powerful support I’ve received amidst my own journey. It’s been marked by immense challenge, hard-earned self-discovery, and profound change — for both myself and those I’ve walked alongside. And it has given me a deep desire to build a better, safer, and more vibrant world for us all.
Over the years, I have witnessed the transformative power of therapy, and I am committed to creating an environment where every person feels seen, valued, and capable of lasting change.
Whether you’re facing a crisis, addressing deep-seated trauma, breaking free from behavioral ruts, or seeking greater fulfillment, my work is to help you see yourself more clearly and find the courage and skill to build a more bold and vibrant life.
Why “Inhabit Life”
Inhabit Life is more than a practice name. It’s a personal and professional calling. In an age of disconnection from our bodies, relationships, neighborhoods, and nature, “Inhabit Life” is an invitation to be where our feet are. To be present to the fullness of the human experience – joy, sorrow, excitement, pleasure, loneliness, boredom, and even rage. To be vulnerable, take risks, and live into our deepest values and desires. And, to do so with compassion amidst the human, animal, and plant communities around us as we work towards a more just, safe, and vibrant life for all. Our work centers three values:
- Authenticity – Life provides countless reasons to retreat, shut down, or mask our true selves. Authenticity invites us into the process of curiosity and risk-taking. We’ll work to come into gentle contact with the thoughts, emotions, images, and impulses shaped by our experiences. We’ll learn to accept the reality of every part of our story, even the messy and painful parts, and show up with honesty, openness, and courage.
- Embodiment – Life unfolds in the real, material world of our bodies, relationships, and actions. Harmful embodied experiences can give lead to depression, fear, compulsions, and more that trouble us. Therefore, new embodied experiences are necessary for healing. Uncovering what is within and remembering we’re wired for connection, we’ll take thoughtful risks to show up more authentically in our relationships, rewire our nervous systems, and build bold lives.
- Liberation – Only an authentic, embodied life creates the possibility of liberation – for ourselves and others. Liberation invites us into the practice of freedom, justice and love. When we accept the skin we’re in, the lives we’ve lived, and the world we inhabit, we can take real steps towards the possibility of something better. Liberation dismantles barriers and imagines a world rooted in love, where we can each become the most vivid versions of our ever-emerging selves.
My Approach
I believe that every person deserves a space to be fully themselves without judgment—a space where healing, discovery, and transformation unfold in their own way.
My foundational approach is Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which emphasizes building a mindful, meaningful, and resilient life through self-compassion, mindfulness, and values-based living. I also integrate other therapeutic models tailored to your specific needs and goals. These include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) tools, as well as somatic, experiential, narrative, and trauma-focused practices. While most sessions are conversational, they may also include art, writing, mindfulness, mindful movement, walks, psychoeducation, and and other techniques according to your interests and needs.
Therapy with Inhabit Life is collaborative. Together, we explore points of pain and healing, and we develop paths that reflect who you aspire to be. It’s about taking the next right steps with compassion and purpose. Moving together towards a life in which you feel empowered, whole, and truly alive.
I am licensed to practice therapy with clients based out of Georgia. Coaching, training, and consulting can be provided regardless of client location.
The Space
Inhabit Life partners with Blue House Wellness, a therapy coworking space, to provide in-person services. It is located in Scottdale, just outside of Decatur in ITP Atlanta.
When you arrive, you’ll find free on-site parking. You’ll be given a code to enter at the front door. Once inside, sign in on the tablet on the table, grab a drink, and take a moment to settle. The bathroom is straight down the hall and then to the right. You’ll be met in the lobby shortly.
Once in the office, make yourself comfortable. Slip off your shoes if you’d like. Sit, lay, stand. Move, fidget, be still. We may even go for a walk or sit outside if helpful in that moment.
This is a come as you are space where every bit of who you are is welcome.

More About Me
When I’m not working with clients, you might find me fiddling with wood, enjoying a good story, or spending time in nature. Here’s a bit more about me:
- Favorite Recent Reads: I recently finished the 3rd book in N.K. Jemisin’s “Broken Earth” trilogy – a post-apocalyptic fantasy about structural oppression, environment care, family connection, tragic redemption, and liberative sacrifice. I also recently loved “What My Bones Know” by Stephanie Foo – a profound memoir exploring complex trauma, resilience, and the strength of the human spirit.
- Movie or Show That Made an Impact Recently: “Shrinking” on Apple TV – If I’m accidentally a little blunt in the therapy room, blame this sharp, heartfelt comedy about love, authenticity, and 22nd chances as it unfolds among this lovable group of grumpy, passionate therapists.
- Go-To Podcast: I love the reverence for life that flows through the conversations, themes, and guests in On Being with Krista Tippett.
- Weekend Activities: Hanging with my “Little” from Big Brothers Big Sisters. Hiking trails. Gardening. Eating ice cream. Trying to convince my dog to cuddle. Juggling.
